Transformation Summit
Challenges Church Leaders

More than 260 clergy and lay leaders representing 60 Oklahoma Disciples congregations convened on April 21 at Southern Hills Christian Church, Edmond, for a transformation summit.   This inaugural event is the regional church’s initiative to engage congregations in this important work.

Under the leadership of Rev. Jane Lawrence, from the Division of Homeland Ministries, and Dr. Ben Bohren, Regional Minister in Northern California, participants became acquainted with “The Ten Commandments of Transformation,” learned about congregations’ life cycles, explored the spiritual dynamics of transformation and received information about available written and electronic resources.   In addition, all left the event inspired and motivated to challenge their congregations to discover “what God is calling us to be and do in this time.”

A newly established Transformation Work Group is already planning follow-up events to continue the momentum established at the summit.   Churches participating in the summit will be invited and encouraged to participate in area cluster meetings in order to “de-brief” the summit and share ways to implement transformation in each Oklahoma congregation.
