Living Through The Cross

"Stay Tuned to God"

March 13, 2008

Please read: John 8: 51-59
Jesus replied, “If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing.   My Father, whom you claim as your God, is the one who glorifies me.   Though you do not know him, I know him, If I said I did not, I would be a liar like you, but I do know him and keep his word.” John 8:54-55 (NASB)

Upon first reading this scripture I wondered how frustrated Jesus was getting with the people around him. They just weren’t getting “it” and he was running out of time!Likewise, those same people must have been frustrated with this Jesus.   He seemed to be using words just to confuse them.

I guess an immediate “aha” isn’t important.   What matters is that eventually, when the timing is right and we stay tuned to God, He will be revealed.God knows if we continue to prepare ourselves with regular intentional study of His word we’ll eventually come to understanding…as we are ready.   As the philosopher Nietzsche said, “If we knew the whole truth at once it would kill us.”

Prayer: As the choir prepares its anthem, the diaconate prepare the elements, the elders prepare their prayers, and the minister prepares the sermon, help us to personally prepare to understand our Lord.   Amen
