Living Through The Cross

"Whoever Hears My Words and Believes"

March 5, 2008

Please read: John 5:19-29
“I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.” John 5:24 (NIV)

Jesus begins by identifying himself with God and, because of that unity, lived as God wanted.   Because of our identification with Jesus, we honor him and live as he instructed.   We ask ourselves, “What would Jesus do?” or “What would Jesus have me do?”   This helps us make right choices.

In verse 24 Jesus tells us about “Eternal Life” – living forever with God.   This relationship begins when you accept Jesus Christ as Savior.   At that moment, new life begins in you.   You still face physical death, but when Christ returns again, your body will be resurrected to live forever.

God is the source and Creator of life, for there is no life apart from God.   The life in us is a gift from him.   Because Jesus is eternally existent with God, the Creator, he also is “the life” through whom we may live eternally (see 1 John 5:11).

Prayer: O God, forgive me when I pull back from believing in the things You have given us.   Help me to accept Your omnipotence, Your love, and this beautiful, beautiful gift of your Son.   Amen
