Living Through The Cross

"Listen and Obey"

February 28, 2008

Please read: Jeremiah 7:23–28
But this command I gave them, “Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people; and walk only in the way that I command you, so that it may be well with you.” Jeremiah 7:23 (NRSV)

How fortunate we are to live in America.   We are able to enjoy our families, practice our religion, vote for a favorite candidate, labor for fair pay and expect a fair trial if in trouble.   We live in luxury compared to others in the world.

Jeremiah was chosen by God to be a prophet to Israel.   God gave him the words and Jeremiah proclaimed them to the people. God had a plan for his people then and He has one now.   It is still the simple command, “Obey my voice and walk in the way I command you”.

We must be clear about our part in God’s plan. We have the advantage of knowing God’s Son, but do we obey His voice and walk in the way He commands?   We have the advantage of a free country, but do we walk in His way and listen to His voice?

The Lenten Season is upon us and we should heed God’s words as we remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.   God sent prophets like Jeremiah and His people didn’t listen.   He sent His Son into the world and we must listen and obey His word.

Prayer: Eternal Father, you have always been with your people. Be with us at this time as we remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.   Amen
