Please read: I Corinthians 3:16-23
“The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are worthless.” So don’t take pride in following a particular leader. I Corinthians 3:19 (NLT)

This year at Christmas, our family watched “Polar Express” together.   There are many messages in the story, but the central theme is “believing.”

At some point we grow up and stop believing in Santa.   We need proof to believe something exists.   Our experience and logic tell us Santa is a myth.   Scripture tells us we must not deceive ourselves or believe we are wise.   When we think we have it all figured out, we may still have a lot to learn.   There is danger in pride and self-sufficiency.   It makes us vulnerable to manipulation by others to believe what they want.

Instead we must place our confidence in the wisdom, knowledge and judgment of God.   We must not only believe in God; we must believe God.   We must stop looking for proof externally and instead look for God internally, for He lives in us.   We must not search so hard that we overlook God.   We must have faith.   Only by doing this can we sustain our belief.

At the end of the movie, the conductor says to the skeptical boy, “It’s a funny thing about trains, to get to your destination you have to get on board.”   Well, it’s a funny thing about Christianity – to get to your goal you have to believe and be sure it’s God who is your conductor.

Prayer: Dear God, help us to believe and rely on You.   Amen
